Do you have trust issues?

Do you have trust issues?

This past week at City Kidz our topic was trust. Our focus was to help the children to understand that they can trust in God, he’s faithful and has a plan for their lives. This can be a difficult message for many of us including the children who attend City Kidz, as they each have experienced broken trust with those they love.

Trusting in God and following his plan is sometimes difficult when we feel that our life is not going in the direction we would like it to. Perhaps the important thing is to have faith enough for that moment for when we reach our breaking point.

What are thoughts on trusting God? Do you find it easy? Difficult? Why?

8 Thoughts on “Do you have trust issues?”

  1. Trev Thinks:

Have you ever been part of the trust challenge where you are expected to let yourself fall back into someone’s arms and trust that they will catch you? Did you find it easy the first time? Did you ever fail to catch someone who was falling towards you?

The first time I allowed myself to fall backwards, I learned my trust was incomplete as I stepped back and put down a hand to catch myself. I think the person who was trying to catch me was a bit hurt. So I tried again and got a little bit better, then again and again until I learned I could trust. That parallels my experience in trusting God. I always knew I should. I tried, but then stepped back to catch myself. Only after practicing, did I learn to trust.

And about the dropping? Well, one of my kids knew the game and loved playing it. One day they played it when I didn’t know they were about to do it. I was not watching and they crashed to the floor. But God is not like that, He is always watching and as long as I trust Him, as a child trusts, He catches me every time.

  2. Todd Thinks:

    Great thought Ildiko,

I think I’ll weigh in on this one. Generally speaking I think we all have issues with trusting others. I think on average it takes us longer to build trust with each other then it use to. I think we live in a skeptical world and we aren’t sure who to trust anymore. We certainly are more careful to build relationships until trust is earned. If you’ve been hurt through mistrust then this process can take a lot longer the second time around. One of the things we believe at City Kidz is that we need to earn the trust of the children, not expect it. While at the same time, freely extending trust to each one. We believe that as we develop relationships with our kids and their families, we can earn credibility, and eventually we gain trust and then influence follows. However long it takes to build trust, it can be destroyed instantly if we’re not careful. This is why the message of trusting God is so important for each of us. To know that people will let us down, and we’ll let people down, but God never fails us.

  3. Paul Martin Thinks:

I find that it is truly hard and difficult to trust God when there isn’t anything like a net underneath us to land on when we step out of the boat or jump and trust in his great big hands. Yet time and time again He proves his faithfulness. I think part of our problem is our expectation on what we are thinking should be the answers to that to which we call on Him for when it comes to trust.
Recently, I’ve been praying for a job that would allow me to continue to serve in ministry as well as pay off my student loans, which can be a hinderance when trying to put alot of time into ministry.
I thought the answer to my prayers would be a job that would allow me to continue to be active at both City Kidz and other work with kids and youth in and around my neighbourhood. Yet God opened another door, in another province in a totally different type of ministry, which will really stretch me and I’m thinking will challenge my faith in new ways.
So here my prayers were answered, being able to continue to serve and with enough of a wage to likely with some wise management of my funds being able to pay off my loans in under 2 years. Yet, I found I was frustrated cause I wanted to stay and continue doing what I’ve been doing, but that’s not doing what we are called to do, and it’s not really trusting God.
He knows what I need more then I do, and here I am trying to argue likely cause deep down inside I have trust issues with stepping into something new.
I’m still not happy about moving, but I know I need to trust God and he will give me opportunities to grow. I think that’s what’s difficult in our society, it’s easy to decide not to trust, and just do our thing. Trust takes time, but it’s still a choice, which becomes easier only when we see or experience that those we are trusting in have proven that they won’t judge us, criticize us, or hurt us. The Word that sits in my heart when I think about what really seems to help me choose is GRACE.

  4. Todd Thinks:

Thanks for your thoughts Paul. I think you certainly speak on behalf of all of us! We’re going to miss you! We wish you all the best and know that God will use you to continue to impact the lives of those around you!

    Keep in touch.

  5. Lynda Thinks:

Right now I am having a very difficult time believing that God is there for me. It seems that everything I try to do falls into a piece of garbage and everyone or everything I love is taken away from me. I really feel God is trying to tell me that I’m not worth having someone in my life to love and that maybe I should just stop trying.

  6. Joanna Thinks:

Maybe you are doing to much. Instead of pushing on and doing step back and allow God to do his work through you. Let him direct your path. God will never tell you anything negative! Those thoughts are not of God. Use the gifts that God has given to you to do his work and everything else will come to you. Finding his will for your life is difficult at times but once you allow him to be your guide you will find all that you ever need. Blessings to you!

  7. Ildiko Hajmasi Thinks:

Never give up! All the difficulties in life are in the great plan from God because that is what makes us stronger and better so we can be used as an example.

  8. PK Thinks:

I believe trust always needs to be earned. And the only way trust can be earned is by time. This is why it is so important to spend time with God. The more you spend time with Him, the more you get to know Him. The more you get to know Him, the more you trust Him. People are much the same way. It would be a bit difficult to trust some one when you meet them for the first time, because they haven’t established a track record to build that trust. But the more you spend time with them, the more realxed you become, and then a trust level can be built.
‘Trust in the Lord with all of your heart’ Proverbs 3:5 To trust with all your heart means full confidence in the person you are believing to do what they say their going to do. The difference between trusting God and trusting man is God already has had a lot of time to prove Himself. Man, well, limited at best.Because God has already proved Himself over and over again, we can immdeiately put our trust in Him, and the more time spent with Him, just increases and builds that trust.
    That’s my take on trust!
    PK
