Thrills and Spills for 600

It was a cool but promising day as City Kidz volunteers anxiously awaited the departure to pick up the children and their families to go to the Winona Peach Festival.

The parents and kids excitedly got on the bus at the designated location. Each person got a wrist band with happy faces on it to be able to get on the rides. The bus ride gave an opportunity for the families and the City Kidz volunteers to connect. The kids shared their summer fun at camp or times they shared with their friends at home.

Thirteen buses transported more than six hundred children and their parents to the park. Kids could hardly wait for the bus to stop before they each scurried towards the midway, parents in tow. At the park among the more popular rides were the Sizzler, Polar Express, Free Fall and of course, who could forget the Avalanche! Each one succeeded at giving children the thrill of a lifetime as well as that queazy feeling in the pit of their stomachs. In some cases, children found themselves looking for the closest washrooms!

Another highlight of the day was a bear mascot from Boston Pizza handing out cookies as well as the free water bottles for all who were thirsty. Before leaving, kids were delighted as each received free stuffed animals courtesy of Robertson’s Amusements.

Everyone who road our bus had a fantastic day. Many kids with stuffed animals and snacks such as candy apples sat on the bus laughing and smiling and telling the City Kidz volunteers how great the rides were.

Soon the buses returned each child and parent back home and the City Kidz volunteers parted from the parents and the kids by giving them hugs, hi fives and wishing them a good day. The families were grateful and the City Kidz volunteers were happy to spend time with them. Thanks to the Winona Peach Festival committee, the volunteers, and all our supporters, the City Kidz 3rd annual Midway Adventure was a huge success!

the best is when the children are watching you dance and sing and then they copy your every move as if you were their rold model, ( and when you make a bit of a mistake they still think its right ) its just one of my favorite parts of the day when they come up to you and say hey Tabitha and give me highfives and i give them hugs its just the best feeling when you see the print of god that you leave them with when the sessions over…its just the best cause god put me here for a reason and my reason is to inspire kids to reach their potencial and with god you can!!

  2. Todd Bender Thinks:

Great comment Tabitha. I think we often underestimate the power of relationships, especially in the lives of our City Kidz kids. The fun we had at the midway was a great example of that. Thanks for your thoughts!

  3. Arlene Thinks:

What a wonderful experience this was for everyone involved. Everyone despite their age is a kid at the midway and it is so great to be able to spend the day with our CityKidz families and let them know how much we care about them and their children. It is a great opportunity that the Winona Peach Festival provides for our families and I was thrilled to be a part of it.

(The FreeFall ride is not fun)

  4. Lynda Thinks:

Well, our first Saturday has come and gone and it was a CRAZY day. I think a lot of the kids just slept in after a rough week back at school – lol. It truly was wonderful to see all the kids again and the team members that we don’t get to see through the summer. Still think Bus 53 is the BESTEST but the KinderKidz on 121 are pretty awesome!!!!

First time I have ever blogged so I apologise if I put this in the wrong place

  6. Ildiko Thinks:

How wonderful it was to see the kids back on Saturday morning. They were sooooo excited! :) God is truly great to give us the opportunity to love all these kids! It is a pleasure to be at City Kidz :) Thanks Todd and Everyone’s support!

  7. Todd Thinks:

It was great to be back, thanks for your comments Lynda, and Ildiko. Kids are still getting into routine and schedules, I know my home visits went awesome, I was even expecting some new Kinder Kidz, but then I ended up having no Kinder Kidz on my bus:( Although I did have 40 kids, and some new children as well! This week is birthday party week, and I know my kids are super pumped, they’ve been asking all summer “When do the August birthdays get a party?” Let the party begin!!

This week was a great guys! I’m glad that you enjoyed your first week on stage Tabitha!
