15 City kidz kids were treated to a breakfast with Hamilton’s Chief of Police, Brian Mullan, thanks to the Hamilton Police Services, Chief Brian Mullan and Hamiltonian and City Kidz fan Ron Foxcroft. Also in attendance were Spectator Editor-in-Chief David Estok, Officer Lynda Sohal, C.H. Morning Live Co-Host Bob Cowan, City Kidz Staffers Carley Ellis and Susan Lamont. The children who were selected were the winners of a writing contest held by City Kidz over the summer months. The breakfast with the chief was an opportunity for the kids to witness first hand people in their community who are making a difference and who ultimately care about them. Each of the children who attended were able to attend a tour of the police station and learn about different aspects of policing and how the police services are helpers and protectors in the community.
Chief Mullan gave an inspirational talk to the kids ,which impacted them and truly made them think about the choices they make (the jail cell helped too)!
On the bus ride home I specifically asked the kids what their favourite part of the day was. They all had story after story to tell about what they loved the most. There was one little girl who attended, she was very shy so it was interesting to watch her throughout the morning. She was also taking care of her little brother who had also won the writing contest. She barely said a word all day but near the end of the tour she looked up and asked what time it was. I told her it was just about time to leave. She had this look of disappointment on her face and said “I wish we didn’t have to go, this was so much fun.”
Thank you to everyone at the station and those in attendance for giving our kids an experience they will never forget!
