Volunteer Needs Cluster

CityKidz | Volunteer Opportunities

If you’ve ever had the chance to volunteer before, you will know how rewarding it can be…

If you’ve ever had the chance to volunteer at CityKidz… then you will know how exciting and fun it can be! For just a few hours each week, our volunteers commit their time in various roles to help bring interactive, inspirational programming to life for some of Hamilton’s most vulnerable children.

We don’t know all of the struggles our kids face, but the ones we do we know are challenging and we know that even for a couple hours we can let our kids step away from their adversities and into a place of love and excitement. We can do it… with you, that is.

Every person is different — and that’s a pretty great thing, we think! We all have different gifts and skills to bring to the table, which allow us to serve our kids in different ways. That is the great thing about CityKidz, we have different areas for volunteers to serve! We’ve outlined below some volunteer areas that we would love to fill!

CityYouth Female Mentors

When: Wednesday Evening

CityYouth is designed for youth aged 12-15 who have graduated from the CityKidz Saturday program and are looking to develop into mature young adults. Mentors lead a small group of 8-12 youth through discussion from the evening’s large group talk.

Female Roadmaps 2 Dreams mentor

When: Wednesday Evening

RoadMaps to Dreams is for youth (16-17 years of age) who have graduated from the CityYouth Program. Roadmaps to Dreams participants learn basic skills for functioning in the community beyond secondary school; including cover letter and resume writing, interview skills, finance and budgeting and more. Participants develop an increase in self-confidence and self-awareness, deepen their understanding of teamwork and unity by building positive peer relationships within the program and increase their ability to communicate skillfully.  Mentors lead a group of participants through discussion and execution of a skill.

If you are passionate about photography and capturing both little and big moments, this may be for you! We’re looking for someone with a keen eye for photography to capture some of our events both inside and outside of the theatre!

BBQ Event Volunteers (Aug 4 + 25)

When: Friday, August 4 & 25 – 11am – 1pm

CityKidz is fortunate enough to have great community partners come alongside and support us through charitable barbecues. We’re looking for 3 volunteers (2 for Aug 4, 1 for Aug 25) to help cook at a couple of BBQs happening in August. Everything is provided, we just need you! If you’re a master burger-flipper, let us know!

Bus Drivers

When: Saturday Morning/Early Afternoon or Wednesday Evening

Imagine watching a child’s eyes light up and seeing them start to jump up and down, just by pulling up to their house in a big red bus! Simply picking up a child from their home can turn their whole day around. If you have a B or C class license and are looking to help your community’s most vulnerable children by transporting them to and from CityKidz, give us a call!

Welcome/Registration Desk

 When: Saturday Morning/ Early Afternoon

This role welcomes and assists in registering any walk-in children. This role also assists in keeping the children safe by making sure children do not run out of the theatre and preventing unauthorized persons from entering the theatre.

First Aid

If you’re passionate about assisting children in the case of required medical assistance, this is for you! Up to date First Aid certification is required.

Food prep

When: Saturday Morning/ Early Afternoon

We love that we have the opportunity to serve our kids a warm meal and eat with them! If you’d like to get involved with food preparation for Saturdays, please let us know! A team of 2-3 volunteers work to prepare meals for the KinderKidz at the KinderKidz theatre, as well as another team works to prepare meals for the CityKidz at the Sherman Playhouse.

Team members

When: Saturday Morning/ Early Afternoon

What a better way to start your Saturday morning than hanging out with some really great kids? Team members support bus captains by being on the bus, interacting with the kids and being with them in the theatre. Give it a try! We know you will have a good time… and probably hear some interesting stories from our kids too!

We can’t wait to find a spot on our CityKidz team that is perfect for you!
