Give a child the Gift of Christmas!

Hamilton children are counting on you to make their Christmas wishes come true.

Christmas means so much to a child. It’s a time of miracles, celebration, and wonder. But for many CityKidz families, it’s often a time of stress as tight budgets collide with children’s hopeful hearts.

We want every child and every family to feel the joy and magic of the Christmas season. We want faith, hope and love to fill our kids’ homes, not stress or disappointment. We want to show every child that dreams can come true.

To do this, we need your support.

$50 will help us brighten a child’s Christmas with:

A thoughtfully selected and personally delivered gift

A festive gift box filled with treats for their whole family

A tasty, wholesome lunch they can enjoy

A special CityKidz Christmas show on YouTube to celebrate the season

Delivers hope and happiness to a child’s front door.

Make the season merry and bright for two CityKidz children.

Brings faith, hope and love into the homes of four children this season.

The Gift of Christmas is about more than toys and trinkets. It’s a chance for us to tell the children in our community that they are loved, that they matter, and that someone is thinking of them.

Looking at Kayla’s* Christmas wish list, we were feeling a little bit worried. It was exactly one item long. Her toy of choice wasn’t something overly elaborate or expensive, but it also wasn’t something that we had in stock.

Kayla wanted an Elf on the Shelf. Specifically, she explained, she wanted an Elf on the Shelf so that she could share it with her brother to make Christmas memories.

Our team was on high alert at our Toy Store, checking every bag of toy donations that came in for a rosy-cheeked elf. But time was running out and it seemed that our luck was too. We decided to send one of our staff, Missy, on what we thought would be a quick shopping trip. Two sold out shops and some frantic internet searches later, Missy hit the highway in the hopes of nabbing what appeared to be the last Elf on the Shelf in the entire Golden Horseshoe.

When it came time to deliver the elusive elf, Kayla’s reaction did not disappoint. As Kayla peered into the bag containing her gift, she squealed.

“I cannot believe I have an Elf on the Shelf,” she said, eyes wide. “I have waited so long!”

Our Toy Drive runs from November 1 until December 22 at noon. However, we encourage you to drop off your gift as early as possible to help give our staff and volunteers time to select, wrap, and deliver the perfect gift to every child on our list in time for Christmas. We start delivering gifts on December 4, which means we need lots of toys before then in order to make all our kids’ Christmas wishes come true.

Please note that, for safety reasons, toy drop-offs at our Burlington St. location are by appointment only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Check out our Top 25 Toy Wishlist for the most in-demand toys. We also receive the fewest toy donations for kids ages 10-12. Please consider donating a new, unwrapped gift for them this season, or donate now and we’ll make sure to get something special for a child in that age group.

All toy donations – both big and small – are greatly appreciated and will brighten a child’s Christmas! However, if you are debating between donating one ‘big ticket’ item from our list of most-requested toys (like a skateboard) or a few smaller items, we encourage you to donate the bigger item as we receive the fewest of these in-demand toys.

Unfortunately, CityKidz is unable to accept food, clothing, and household donations. However, Mission Services, Wesley, Good Shepherd Centre and The Hamilton Dream Center are all great local organizations that would happily accept these donations.

We can provide tax receipts for all donations $10 and over as long as you provide your full contact information and original proof of purchase (receipt).

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer tax receipts for toy donations made at our drop-off locations. We are only able to offer tax receipts for toy donations made directly at CityKidz.

It’s our top priority to make sure that your donations go to kids in our community, just as you intended. Any leftover toys go to good use! Throughout the year, every child who attends KinderKidz and CityKidz Saturdays receives a gift on their birthday. Some of the leftover Christmas toys go towards birthday gifts so that we can keep giving all year long!

Toys are also used to seed next year’s gift of Christmas campaign. The majority of toys that are donated, come to us after December 15. But, we need to start wrapping and delivering gifts long before that. By having gifts in stock from the previous year, we are able to get a head start and make sure we have time to choose, wrap, and deliver gifts to all our children!

There are a number of other wonderful charitable organizations that are helping children in our community at Christmas time too. If we have collected enough toys to support all of our kids, then we share with other organizations who are still in need.

Any financial donations that are designated for Christmas are used to fund our Gift of Christmas campaign. Even though we receive many donated toys, we often fall short on certain toys and gifts for certain age groups and need to purchase them. There are several other expenses that go along with the campaign including a Christmas meal for all of our kids and their families.

If financial donations exceed the campaign goal, funds will be directed to the next greatest need at CityKidz.
