Message from our Executive Director and Chair of the Board of Directors
“CityKidz is the only consistent thing in my child’s life. Without it, I don’t know where we’d be.” – Caregiver, 2024 Program Evaluation
Dear Friends,
In a world of increasing uncertainty, one thing remained steady in 2024: you kept showing up. And because you showed up, we could show up, and lives were changed.
Consistency is powerful. It’s in the weekly home visits, the buses that roll out on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the warm smiles at every door. It’s the volunteers who keep visiting, the supporters who continue to give month after month, and the leaders who never stop believing in a child’s potential. That unwavering presence builds trust. It plants seeds of hope. It creates the conditions where transformation can take root and dreams can grow.
This past year, you helped make consistency possible for over 800 children and youth:
- 395 new children joined CityKidz, a 229% increase from 2023!
- 14,656 home visits strengthened relationships.
- Over 9,500 meals and gifts shared stability, joy, and love.
Our 2024 evaluation confirmed it: when we show up consistently, change happens. 97% of children said CityKidz helps them feel proud of who they are. Caregivers told us CityKidz isn’t just a part of their week, it’s a lifeline.
As we step into 2025, we remain steadfast in our commitment to Program Excellence, Organizational Effectiveness, and Financial Resiliency, ensuring that long after the first bus ride, the first program, and the first smile, we’re still here, week after week, year after year.
Every volunteer who kept showing up, every supporter who kept believing, every champion who said, “These kids matter”, thank you. You are helping build a future where children not only dream big, but also have the support they need to make those dreams a reality.
Consistency changes everything. And together, we will keep showing up until every child knows they are loved, they are valued, and they are never alone.
With deep gratitude,
Rev. Todd Bender

Where Big Dreams Begin
Every child deserves a chance to dream boldly, grow fully, and live with hope, no matter their circumstances.
Mission
Vision
Values
We exist to increase resiliency and inspire BIG dreams for children living in low-income communities by providing inspirational experiences and nurturing personal relationships, one child at a time.

Our BIG dream is that one day, in the not so distant future, we will see an end to child poverty in Canada and every child will have equal opportunity to thrive, to dream big and to reach their full potential.
Who We Serve
CityKidz serves over 800 children and youth in grades 1 – 12, along with their families, in Hamilton, Ontario.
We focus on neighbourhoods experiencing the highest levels of need and the fewest available resources.
Our unique delivery model organizes children into neighbourhood routes to ensure every child is reached where they are.
People of Faith
Our Christian faith compels us to respond to the needs of our children with a focus on those who experience the highest levels of adversity with the least amount of resources.
Community of Hope
We have a confident expectation that each child will rise to their full potential and realize God’s purpose for their life. This inspires us to bring hope to children and to ignite their dreams.
Servants of Love
Because of God’s love for us, we love all children regardless of race, creed, religion, ability or economic status. We believe that to increase resiliency and inspire dreams we must demonstrate unconditional love through nurturing personal relationships one child at a time.
CityKidz Program Model
Children at CityKidz follow a powerful, research-based path that supports them from early childhood through young adulthood.

Programs That Change Lives

For many families, CityKidz is the only place their child feels safe.
It’s the foundation of their weekend routine, social interaction, and emotional well-being.

Why CityKidz is Needed – And Working

An in-depth program evaluation affirmed that CityKidz is delivering meaningful, measurable change in the lives of children and families.
From self-confidence to empathy, the evaluation revealed the depth of our reach and the resilience we’re building in our community.

CityKidz is more than a program. It’s often the only consistent, caring presence in a child’s week. For many families, it’s a lifeline in communities where resources are few, but potential is great.
Hope in Quiet Steps: Amiel’s Story
Amiel, 11, isn’t one to jump into new things. Naturally quiet, he surprised his mom by asking to join CityKidz after seeing a flyer at school. That decision changed everything.
At first, Amiel observed. Then he participated, singing on stage, making friends, and even joining Camp CityKidz. Now a proud member of CityYouth, he’s dreaming of becoming a junior leader.
“Since joining, he’s more confident, more engaged,” his mom Rina says. “He couldn’t wait for the program to start again.”
Demarco’s Journey: Built to Last
Demarco has been part of CityKidz for over six years. From Saturdays on the big red bus to thoughtful discussions in CityYouth, he’s grown up with the program, and grown into a leader.
“From day one, I felt happy,” he says. “CityKidz has always been
there.”
For Demarco, that presence came with people like Susan, a volunteer who showed up week after week. “She’s always smiling. Always consistent.”
For his mom, Krystal, CityKidz means family. “They remember every birthday, every little thing. It shows the kids they matter.”

The People Behind The Mission
Our Volunteers: The Heartbeat of CityKidz
To the hundreds of volunteers who made this mission possible in 2024: thank you! You are the early risers, the bus leaders, the behind-the-scenes meal preppers, the listeners and encouragers who bring CityKidz to life. YOU are changing lives.
Volunteers like Susan remind us what connection looks like. Her warmth on the phone leaves supporters feeling seen and valued.
Tania, one of our CityYouth mentors, calls her time with the teens her ‘Vitamin CY.’ Through song, prayer, and laughter, she helps young people shine brighter.
To each of you: thank you for being present.
You are the heartbeat of CityKidz.

Our Supporters: Partners in Possibility

Financial Resiliency
Annual Revenue grew from $2.28 million to $2.6 million in 2024. This increase enabled us to grow our programs, deepen our impact and increase sustainability.
2025 Strategic Priorities
In 2025, CityKidz entered the second year of our three year strategic plan. A plan rooted in consistency, growth, and unwavering commitment to the children and families we serve. We remain focused on 3 key priorities that guide our work as we build on momentum and deepen our impact across every program and in our community.

Program Excellence

Operational Effectiveness

Financial Resiliency
In 2025, we will continue to refine and expand the initiatives launched in the past year. From strengthening our programs and community support, enhancing internal systems, deepening supporter engagement, and exploring diverse revenue streams, our goal is to remain adaptable, resilient, and forward-thinking.
